Back in 2011, Google published a study called the Zero Moment of Truth that found that before a prospect feels ready to buy, they first need to consume:
7 hours of content
Across 11 interactions
In 4 different locations
That’s the 7-11-4 formula.
Sure, you can run discounts or use high-pressure sales tactics to get prospects to “Buy Now,” but if you want clients who are actually happy they did business with you, there’s just no substitute for time…and specifically time-consuming content about YOUR brand.
And no platform is better at delivering time-consuming content than YouTube.
Watch one short video, and the algorithm serves you another… and another… until your prospect is three hours deep and primed to buy. This is what we call a YouTube Binge Loop, and here’s how to build one of your own:
Step 1: Create Your Pillar Content (The Main Course)
Your pillar content is a long-form, strategic piece of content that perfectly articulates your value. More than likely, this content already exists. Think about the perfect keynote presentation, webinar, case study, or deep-dive interview you did. And if you’re stuck, just ask:
“What’s one piece of content I wish every prospect saw before I asked them to buy something from me?”
On my own channel, that’s “How to Grow Your Business from $10M to $200M (Scalable Operating System)”—a one-hour breakdown of our full Operating System buildout methodology.
Here’s the catch: because pillar content is usually long, it’s rarely the first thing someone consumes. It’s best served as the second or third video in their binge.
That’s where the appetizers come in…
Step 2: Splinter Into Micro-Pillars (The Appetizers)
This is where the binging begins...
Start by splintering your pillar content into 5 - 7 micro-pillars. These are shorter, snackable videos (typically 5 - 15 minutes) that each tackle one key problem or insight introduced in your pillar content. These get the clicks, spark curiosity, and set up the main course.
From our Scalable OS video, we created:
“CEO Dashboard” (metrics and scorecards)
“Stop Making SOPs” (our contrarian take on business systems)
“Cashflow Routine” (our take on small business finances), and…
“How to Build a Business That Runs Itself” (freedom-focused)
These are the videos that get the bulk of the organic attention, as well as the bulk of any paid spend (if you choose to go the paid ad route). And because they’re shorter and more specific, they pull people in and earn trust fast.
Step 3: Make All Roads Lead Back
Your micro-pillars start the binging process, but the primary pillar content seals the deal.
That’s why your pillar should be the featured video on your channel, and every micro-pillar should point viewers back to it through playlists, end screens, video descriptions, and even your email sequences.
Think of it like this: micro-pillars are the hooks, and the pillar is the anchor. Micro-pillars capture attention, but the pillar delivers depth, authority, and the “aha” moment that makes prospects ready to buy.
The result? Instead of watching a couple of 10 - 15-minute videos, prospects now rack up 3 - 4 hours across multiple pieces of content.
And the result? Lead costs down, and sales cycles shortened by 40%.
Takeaway: Binging doesn’t start with the main course…it starts with the appetizers. Build your YouTube Binge Loop with micro-pillars up front, pillar content at the center, and playlists that keep people watching.
The more they binge, the faster they buy.
⚡ Action Step: Choose one pillar video this week and feature it on your channel. Then splinter it into 5 - 7 micro-pillars and push those hard (organic and paid). Make sure every micro-pillar points back to the pillar in the description, and watch how quickly casual viewers get stuck in your binge loop…and then beg you to buy.
